Statement

My artistic practice takes place at the intersection of visual creation, research, and education. I conceive of this as an artistic space from which to consider how we construct our own identities and, subsequently, how we interpret images; to draw conclusions about the meaning inherent in our reality.

I work with photography, photomontage, video, and installation, primarily using visual narrative as a method of research. This definition of simulacrum quite well explains my work as a realm where appearance, memory, and fiction merge in the construction of what we perceive as real. Each project is an experimental process. Creation is a tool through which you can ask questions that have no simple answers, test ideas in practice, and expand knowledge in the process. My research is grounded in Arts-Based Research and A/R/Tography, where the artistic experience itself serves as a situated production of knowledge that opens up new kinds of reflective approaches.
 

My work is consistently linked to arts education. I explore a pedagogical approach to creative practices that not only fosters critical thinking and visual literacy but also cultivates an attentive disposition toward the culture or image in question. It is precisely here that simulation, self-portraiture, and visual narratives serve as means to interrogate collective imaginations, reexamine systems of representation, and shed light on how we construct our identity in a world that, in practice, is constituted by images.

I see artistic practice as a meeting place for experience, thought, and creation—a space where research involves producing images, experimenting with them, and using them to discover new ways of seeing, learning, and understanding ourselves.
